  • Our Love Story

    August 14th, 2014

Bryan and I moved onto the same floor of the dorms at the University of Oklahoma (Walker 10 what up). This is when we first met, though it was also when we met like a hundred other people so I couldn't tell you much about him from the first few weeks. I'm sure he remembers me as the crazy, overly outgoing person I forced myself to be for the first semester of college.

FOAM PARTY! This is the night our friendship (and that with several other lifelong friends) was really cemented. It was honestly the silliest night. My first real memory of Bryan is of him, soaked through, his eyes red from the foam, excitedly yelling "FOOOOAAAAM PAARRRTY" before dragging us into the fray.

    Summer 2016

Though Bryan and I had been friends for almost two years at this point, this summer was when we really got close. It was probably the best summer of my life- so many of our friends were staying in Norman and we were always doing something fun. One of the highlights was our intramural basketball team, Marie and the Babes (named because I was the only girl on the team). Y'all, I played so much basketball that summer... and it wasn't because I liked the exercise. I remember doing everything I could to be around Bryan, even if it meant I had to embarrass myself playing sports. The other pivotal events of the summer were the hill trips. Cavanal Hill sits over three hours east of Norman, and it is the tallest hill in the world. We visited three times that summer. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this, but the hill does hold a very special place in our hearts. By the end of this summer, Bryan and I had become very close friends and were both considering something more.

Our first date! We went to the Republic Gastropub for dinner. I, like an idiot, ordered this hamburger covered in barbecue sauce. It was one of the most unladylike meals of my entire life. Oops. Afterwards, we went to an improv comedy show in OKC which was very okay. It was a wonderful night and I'm very grateful he stuck with me through that burger :).

I had known I loved Bryan for aaaaages at this point, but was dutifully waiting for him to say it first. We were the only two of our friends in Norman at this point because everyone else was home for the holidays, so we were spending every day together. On this particular night we had decided to go to a new park in town, Legacy Park, to check it out. It's a really beautiful park with a pond and fountains. I remember thinking that this seemed like a perfect location to say the "L" word. Bryan says he was too cold to think about it. He ended up telling me he loved me for the first time later that night on his couch. Swoon. <3

I wasn't exactly surprised when Bryan proposed- I had been anxiously awaiting it for a few months and even had helped to pick out the ring. Nevertheless, it was really lovely. He took me back to Legacy Park where he famously Didn't Tell Me He Loved Me, got down on one knee and said "I hope you'll marry me". Obviously, love :).

And that's how we got here! I am literally so super psyched for our wedding day and the wonderful, goofy life we're sure to live together.
